The old way of establishing a business as a dominant player is to advertise the heck out of yourself. Advertise everywhere, build a powerful brand and the clients will pour in. Yeah right! Maybe 20 years ago, but in today's competitive landscape you need to position yourself as an expert in your field. It's no longer about fishing for clients through advertising, it's about pushing out content, putting it in the right places and watching the clients come your way.
Today's consumer is smarter and much more concerned about good service as opposed to the cheapest price. Yeah I know there is still the price conscience consumer looking for the published coupon, but is that really the long term client you want to build your business around. You must cater the higher end customer, the one that is more interested in quality. Establishing you and your business as an expert in the industry is a huge advantage over your competition.
What is content?
Content is original works such as articles about your industry or business (not sales promos). When creating content think of information that will benefit your customers and potential customers. Things that educate or better a persons life.
Things you need to start doing today to help build your business for the future through content creation.
In this new era of marketing, you don't want to get involved in what's called disruption marketing. Today's consumer does not have the time or patience to deal with ads placed all over the place. And very few consumers are spending their time reading print publications or searching for services they need in the telephone book. Consumers are searching online, and looking for information first. You're not going to sell someone based on an add in the local neighborhood magazine. So establishing yourself as an expert in your field gives you and your company more credibility and pushing out valuable content positions you higher in the search results, making it easy for potential customers to find you online.
